Say Goodbye To Zinc-based Penny

Bloomberg reports

Citing copper and zinc costs, House votes for return of steel penny

The U.S. House has voted to bring begin producing the copper-plated steel coins within the next nine months, saying it would be cheaper than the current practice, of zinc-based materials, in which costs the government 1.3 cents for every penny it produces. This is due to the rising cost of base metals. The measure also recommends phasing in steel nickels over the next two years.

What would they do if steel costs rise?
